There are 2 Pathways in the body, and the brain sends messages along these two separate pathways:
- The first is to the Pituitary Gland in the brain, which releases the hormone ACTH – Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone. It travels quickly in the blood to stimulate the Adrenal Glands to produce the fear hormones and prepare the body for fight or flight.
- The second is through the Brain Stem and Spinal Cord, sending impulses to many parts of the body, including the Adrenal Glands.
The combined effort of these two pathways stimulate the two parts of the Adrenal Glands (the Core-inner and the Cortex– outer). Each part stimulates different hormones for different purposes.
The Cortex: Releases Cortisol and Cortisone. It Fights inflammation, Increases muscle tension, Frees fatty acid, and Increases Blood Sugar.
The Core: Releases Adrenaline and Nor Adrenaline. It Activates the heart muscle, Increases cholesterol, Sends glucose to muscles, Raises Blood Pressure and Increases Heart Rate.
The source of stress is seen by the body as an enemy to be fought or avoided. There is a lot of science in this piece, but the information is valuable to your understanding.
Q - Can you see why stress and fear is so detrimental to your well-being?
