Mindful Moments #2

Did you remember that a neuron is a brain cell?   Great!

Each neuron is about the size of a pinhead and has the capacity to make 10,000 connections with other neurons.

The connections are made by finger-like projections from the neurons called dendrites (the receivers of messages) and axons (message givers).

Axons and dendrites do not actually touch, but they send & receive messages across a divide called the synaptic gap.

Messages are carried across the gap by chemicals known as neurotransmitters.

If the chemicals are out of balance moods change and we are sad, giddy or emotionally fragile.

But there’ s hope, because treatments to balance neurotransmitters are successful!

Tune in next week for another hope-filled, mindful moment.
